The wolf and the rose

“The Wolf and the Rose” — by MAAS

This painting is my way of talking about depression — especially the kind that so many men hide until it becomes unbearable. The wolf represents that darkness trying to break through the glass and destroy the rose inside, which for me symbolises who we really are: our beauty, our softness, our essence.

The glass protects the rose but also shows how fragile we can feel when we’re fighting something we don’t fully understand. The blue inside is serenity, the calm we’re desperate to hold on to, while the background burns with passion and chaos — the fire of the internal struggle.

This idea was inspired by The Little Prince, a book that shaped my childhood and taught me the value of caring for the things we love, especially within ourselves.

The Wolf and the Rose is my reminder that speaking about our pain is a form of courage — and that even in the middle of the storm, something inside us keeps blooming.
